Tagged: 7 Random Things About Me

Wendy from a Wee Bit of Cooking recently tagged me for this meme. Like she said, memes are ideal for hectic times or lazy days. My schedule is a bit crazy at the moment because of the start of a new internship. I don't even have time to run as much as I'd like to, let alone bake or cook. I hope to get back to my usual self soon. For now:

7 Absolutely Random Things About Me ...
(1) I learnt to ride a bicycle when I was 25 years old.

(2) My full name has 31 letters.

(3) I have a very high tolerance and big love for spicy food, so don't challenge me to a chilli eating competition.

(4) I ate so much papaya and carrots as a kid that I now have a permanent yellowish glow on my skin (luckily, I have tanned skin, otherwise you might think that I am related to the Simpsons!).

(5) I can speak 2 (English, Malay) + 0.5 (Indonesian) + 0.5 (Mandarin) languages & also read Arabic (I don't understand it though). I tried to learn Italian and French without success - well, I probably didn't try hard enough (I was just happy to be able to understand the menus in both countries!)

(6) I am allergic to pain medications like asprins and paracetamol, so when I have a headache or have a cold, I use aromatherapy (e.g. lavender oil, eucalyptus). It seems to work, even if some of it may be a placebo effect.

(7) More than a decade ago, I wanted to set up my own bakery and cafe, but after working in a bakery for 2 months, I realised that it's too hard (very, VERY long days, very tiring) and it took the joy out of baking for me.

I'm not tagging bloggers who have been around a while just because they've probably been tagged before, so I will tag 7 new & "new-ish" faces in the food blog world since I enjoy reading their blogs and would like to know some random facts about them:

Janet from Janet is Hungry
Amanda from
Little Foodies
Kelly-Jane from
Cooking the Books
The Ninja from
The Cooking Ninja
Truffle from
What's on My plate
Susan from
The Well-Seasoned Cook

And of course, my good friend Eva from Sweet Sins (although she's not that new to the food blog world, I wonder if she can tell me random things about herself that I don't already know....)
And here is a random food photo I haven't posted:

Well, I'm trying my best to dig up some facts that maybe shouldn't see the light of day...
BTW what the stuff beneath the custard? I just love everything that can be drowned in custard!

Have been lurking for a time. Loved your seven random facts and just wanted to say I always love popping in to see what you have been cooking and the lovely food photos!

That photo is pure temptation, Nora - will you post the recipe? I'm dying of curiosity. ;)

Wow, we've got one thin in common! I was fed too many carrots & pawpaw when I was a kid that my cheeks turned yellow too! My parents thought I was sick & even brought me to the doctor -_-

31 letters in your name, that's interesting!:)

Great response, Nora!

# 1 – Really? Getting your balance must have been tough.
# 4 – Again, really? My eyes widened reading this and I wonder if I’m being really gullible. Again.
#5 – I take my imaginary hat off to you.

Thanks for the meme, I'll do it soon!

Eva, I wonder what kinds of random facts you will come up with :-) The photo is of a crumble. I can't remember what fruit I used, I think it was apples, pear and dried cherries. I love custard too!

Marie, thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. I love your stories & photos, and how your have a tempting recipe at the end of your post. It's wonderful that you enjoy your job as a chef.

Patricia, it's quite a simple crumble that we make almost every week. Maybe I will post it when I don't have something more interesting to write about ;-)

Valentina, so I'm not the only cousin of the Simpsons!

Wendy, it's all true.
#1 - It took my friend a few weeks to convince me to learn, but once we bought a bicycle, I learnt in half an hour! I was shocked at how easy it was. But the hard part is getting good at it, like riding up hills - that's a killer.

Kelly-Jane - I'm looking forward to it. :-)

Professional food service is hard, sometimes hateful work, but working for yourself does appeal to me.

Thanks for tagging me, Nora, but I'm going to pass this time. Not b/c I don't want to, but that I did the 7 Random Things about 6 weeks ago. The post was "The IT Girl," if you'd like to look back.

Be patient and I am sure you will find some time.

Thanks for sharing a little of yourself with you. Me too #3 but I don't think I'm brave enough to challenge anyone :)

I promise I won't challenge you to a chilli eating comp. Nora!

Much better to attack headaches the aromatherapy way.

Insightful meme! Love getting a glimpse into other people's lives!

Susan, I still dream about having my own cafe.... as for the Meme, I totally forgot that you already did write about that. My memory is usually pretty good ;-)

BBO - Yes, I will try to be patient. And guess what, I got to leave work early today.

Cynthia, I'm hoping nobody takes up the challenge ;-)

Your full name has 31 letters?????!! Wow!

Nora B. said...

Wok&Spoon - Yes, and this makes me hate filling out forms and when I have to spell my name over the phone...

Hi Nora, thanks for the Tag! I will have to get to work, I was just also tagged by Katie at "Other People's Food" for Eight Random Facts... I wonder if that means I have to come up with 15 facts (I'm just not that exciting) maybe I can combine them somehow....

I thought I'd left you a comment but maybe I didn't. Going mad! Thanks Nora, I'll get on to it asap. My mum has an aromatherapy company so as a family we're quite big on using it for small ills. Same as you for no.3 too - Totally addicted while I was pregnant to the stage where I gave myself incredibly painful heartburn. Back to normal now though. (well normal eating anyway!)

What fun! That's a great list of things about yourself.

Janet - But you are that exciting! ;-)

Amanda - wow, I'd be your mom's best customer if I was living in the UK.

Aimée - Yes, it was more fun that I thought.
